Section “read, but not fully understood”:
1/
About the neural net (https://github.com/official-stockfish/nnue-pytorch/blob/master/docs/nnue.md)
that underlies the famous chess bot Stockfish. The gimmick of this architecture is that it tries to change its internal states and inputs as little as possible while it’s calculating your next moves. A respectable thing.
2/ Boethius, “The Consolation of Philosophy.” A book, basically. This is for understanding how people thought in the Middle Ages. The guy was so respected that his book got recopied in almost every monastery in Europe. And the dialogue format in the book is interesting too. Wanna get what was going on in rulers’ heads back then, read it without hesitation.
3/
A fairly old article (https://nplus1.ru/material/2019/12/22/simple-math)
on n+1 about some “levels” in physics, like how complicated everything is, and that meme Elon Musk once posted. One of my favorite articles, since I dug into string theory myself (a few years, just for me).
4/ Seems I accidentally unearthed where the term JTBD (job to be done) came from. In the sixties some Theodore Levitt, who worked at Harvard as an economist and a teacher, put out a theory called “marketing myopia.” Put simply, he pushed the idea that a bunch of companies are being dumb defining themselves by their products rather than by what needs they cover (now they’ve taken that topic and repackaged it into the “job to be done” framework).
5/
a pretty neat playbook (https://caseyaccidental.com/monetization-playbook/)
on monetization from a guy from Eventbrite. Liked how simply and lightly the decisions are built off basic metrics like virality, retention, and so on.
6/ for anyone who wants to figure out quantum computing

JTBD (job to be done).
