“Delusion” column.

“Delusion” column. Online there are, like, two religious denominations. The apologists of YC and pretty interviews and stories about what righteous people they’ve got there, and the second camp where you just need to make money, step on heads, and so on.

So, here are the main signs of delusion:
- the person handing out advice hasn’t founded a single company, has no verified track record, and hasn’t invested anywhere
- all the stories and posts are written off internet articles, interviews
- another chunk of posts is based on “my successful acquaintances”
- they’re constantly dishing out advice / running webinars and so on
- in their head there’s a clear recipe for success or how to do it “right” without accounting for circumstances and timing

Specifically here they’re postulating that being active on social media is bad. Probably because it eats time, and the assumption is that if you’re in a startup you should be grinding 24/7, which is complete bullshit. Nobody can work for years in the same mode. I figure for a founder the most important skill is the ability to focus at the right moments in time, and the ability to grind when you need to, but doing it nonstop—yeah, unlikely. Elon Musk no-lifes Diablo and it’s fine, even though he’s supposedly working 24/7.
