Lately I’ve been talking a lot about pitches and startups. And I noticed that a lot of people pay attention to the process of putting together a deck/plan and so on. They do “optimizations.” Which you don’t need at an early stage.
Or how do I put it—you should optimize what already works. And a startup you need to build.
Another aspect is faith in what you’re doing and that you’re the very person who will actually build it or make the product or idea real. This is really important. I often notice that a lot of people have completely different goals. Make money, just be famous, or like, say what a cool founder I am. And a complete don’t-give-a-damn about what exactly the company you’re trying to build even does. I’m sure experienced partners at funds can spot that instantly and that’s a reason for a pass (especially in top tier).
