On the topic of mentoring, coaches, and all that.
The main question, as it seems to me, is this: who’s responsible? And since, as I was told, a mentor in a project or at a manager’s should be for the long haul. And like, he helps with strategy from the side, from his experience and whatever. Meaning he kinda helps, roughly, to build the company? Right? Then let them get 1k bucks a month and a tiny 0.5% like an advisor. Because that’s fair, isn’t it?
The person doesn’t do anything with their hands. And if he’s helping a startup, then here’s its future that you signed up to support. Otherwise these guys want 10k bucks a month for their experience, or like 5k.
The other side of the coin is, like, what’s the motivation of these people in general? If you’re that cool and experienced, then clearly you didn’t come to chop up cash here and now off an early-stage startup. Orrrr? Or I don’t know something. But cool dudes are usually ready to help if they’re simply interested and money isn’t a big deal at all.
