A few bits of news and comments:
1/ OpenAI
went and
solved one of Erdős’s problems. This is straight-up good. Very good. I haven’t had time to dig into the solution yet, hope someone posts a normal overview (not from the people who were giving quotes for the OpenAI blog). But overall, a lot of folks were saying they’d go after Erdős problems specifically. Since the task is basically combinatorial, and I wrote at some point that in this kind of task where you have to make complex deep hypotheses about structures, there will be a lot of breakthroughs. Hell yes! A real assistant. Wonder how many tasks like that there are.
2/ On math: I *highly* recommend this article on Substack. Also, if enough people subscribe, maybe I’ll start mirroring longreads there. The article is about how math creates new ways of knowing, and you won’t discover them by brute force. Or that proofs aren’t the goal of math. Very long text—if you can’t be bothered, read it with an LLM.
3/ Anthropic pays xAI a billion a month for compute. Nice.
4/ Karpathy moved to the pretrain team over there, where they pay Elon a billion for compute. Obviously for the money.
5/ they say Claude mythos is coming soon

1/ OpenAI
решили
одну из проблем Эрдеша. Это прямо хорошо. Очень хорошо. У меня не было пока времени вникать в решение, надеюсь кто-то запостит норм обзор (не из тех кто комменты давал для блога OpenAI). Но в целом многие говорили, что именно проблемы Эрдеша будут штурмовать. Так как задача по сути комбинаторная и я тут как-то писал, что в такого рода задачах где надо делать сложные глубокие гипотезы о структурах будет много прорывов. Кайф! Настоящий ассистент. Интересно много ли таких задач.
2/ На тему математики крайне рекомендую вот
эту статью
на Substack. Заодно если достаточно народу
подпишется
может туда длиннопосты буду дублировать. Статья про то, что математика создает новые способы познания и перебором говорят их не обнаружить. Или то, что доказательства не есть цели математики. Очень большой текст, кому лень прочтите с LLM.
3/ Anthropic платит xai по ярду в месяц за мощности. Норм.
4/ Карпаты перешел в претрен команду туда, где платят по ярду за мощности Илону. Явно за баблом.
5/ говорят скоро Claude mythos
