Long story short I wanna add a bit of clarity to these rounds. Here we go again: top funds are investing a yard into a lab at a 4 valuation. And news like this is everywhere in general.
The logic is roughly this:
- any fund doing rounds like this needs projects like Google, OpenAI etc. The kind that will define how a whole industry develops.
- they’re not interested in turning 100m into a yard. And none of their LPs (the people putting money into the fund) are either. They’re being sold a high-risk strategy and they’re buying.
- big AI labs are a pretty understandable bet given the mood among a lot of big-name research teams that the transformer isn’t gonna take us to the next level of AI.
- funds do everything based on already-lived experience, yeah, it worked last cycle so it should work now, this idea is close to a lot of people and sells well.
- sometimes details matter, but rarely; usually they pick the most famous or the super-ambitious team with a ton of references and dump a pile of money on them, and now you can’t really buy a company like that either, which means these smart guys will grind until something comes together or they return the cash (everyone’s fine with them burning half, that’s a normal risk profile).

Короче говоря хочу внести чуть ясности в эти раунды. Вот снова в лабу инвестируют топ фонды ярд при оценке 4. И таких вокруг новостей в целом полно.
Логика в этом примерно такая:
- всем фондам которые делают такие раунды нужны проекты типа Google, OpenAI etc. Которые будут определять развитие определенной отрасли.
- им не интересно зарабатывать из 100м один ярд. И никому из их LP (вкладчики в фонд) тоже. Им продают высокорисковую стратегию и они покупают.
- большие аи лабы это вполне понятная ставка учитывая что настроение у многих именитых рисерч команд о том, что трансформер не приведет нас к след уровню AI
- фонды делают все на основе уже пройденного опыта, ага вот в прошлом цикле сработало и сейчас должно, эта идея близка многим людям и хорошо продается
- иногда важны детали, но редко, обычно выбирают максимально именитую или с кучей референсов амбициозную команду и дают тучу денег, теперь такую контору и не купить то особо, а значит эти умные ребята будут пахать пока не сложится что-то или вернут бабки (всем ок что они сожгли половину это нормальный риск профиль)
