In short, once we posted the vacancy, all kinds of resumes started flying in. Since it was on LinkedIn and a bunch of other places too, I noticed one “nuance”.

We’ve got some very narrow and rare requirements in the description, like GPU kernel optimization and even better on some hypothetical Metal. You almost never see that, and in general it’s barely needed anywhere. And magically, in some resumes the experience looks roughly like:

• wrote backend for a hospital or cleaned a dataset
• and then right there in January 2026 a personal project: “Developed custom
GPU kernels in Metal
for accelerated matrix operations, specifically targeting Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) for on-device LLM inference.”

Yeah sure.

🙂

Does someone seriously think that’s gonna affect the process in a good way. It’s a horror show, this whole “optimize your resume for the vacancy” thing.

Developed custom
GPU kernels in Metal
for accelerated matrix operations, specifically targeting Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) for on-device LLM inference."
