Feels like I left a pretty decent comment. What do you think?

I’ll throw in my two cents. I lived in the US, worked with their investors, hired people. Please take this as purely a personal projection, but a pretty strong one, because my entire current work circle is from there.
The problem is in the mindset and the approach to the market. In the CIS crowd the most important thing is your measurable skills: hard skills. All posts, opinions are based only on quality that lends itself to direct, understandable analysis. I grew up in that myself. And when someone runs into the fact that some person who isn’t that крутой in hards/skills managed to build a company worth a yard, all the stones get thrown at factors the author can’t change (place of birth, language, and so on).
But in reality “button placement under a constrained budget and market” isn’t that important. What matters is the ability to lead a company and product in the right direction. Yeah, money plays a big role there. But the Valley didn’t start with huge money either, and lots of products launched earlier in Russia. But then the people who launched them couldn’t scale for a bunch of reasons, not just “California and a rich family.” A larger number of managers from the RU region lack:
- understanding of the market and where it’s going
- the ability to prioritize year 5 of development over year 2 (lack of long money is the main factor and reason here)
- shitty communication qualities
- the ability to sell their ideas badly
- inability to build relationships with the market and different cultures
That’s why in these analyses you can read hidden envy and denial. Like “how did these losers pull that off, I’m the one who’s better.” But the ones who are better are actually them. Way higher level of mindset adaptation, faster reaction, faster to take risk (and this is just straight up bad in RU).
