Judging by the picture, at least for now. I’m watching a lot of people leave OpenAI and try to start their own companies. (https://www.theinformation.com/briefings/former-openai-deepmind-leaders-seek-funding-chatgpt-material-science) Usually, by the way, it’s domain-specific stuff. OpenAI itself, with its whole vibe, is signaling that they’re stubbornly trying to do business, even if it’s big and maybe ambitious. But in the push toward AGI, it seems to me they dropped the G along the way.
As soon as the key people who were in the company on the path to AGI walk out and start building various nets for robots, for science, for whatever. The question pops up: why leave a company that’s supposedly about to get AGI in 2027. And you, as a scientist there, would get to tack your name onto the most important discovery in human history. Rhetorical question.
Every month I’m more and more waiting for a reaction from all the “true believers” in AI2027.

(https://www.theinformation.com/briefings/former-openai-deepmind-leaders-seek-funding-chatgpt-material-science)
